When Oscar Isaac has spoken about his role as the titular villain in X-Men: Apocalypse, he has used a lot of references to the bible. For the film's first poster, however, the folks over at 20th Century Fox seemingly took more inspiration from William Shakespeare - as you can see below
This past Friday we saw the arrival of the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, and now we have our first one sheet. And while it's not the most creative thing we've ever seen, it is pretty solid compared to most superhero movie posters. No poorly Photoshopped ensembles or floating heads over giant explosions; it's just a mutant and a skull. Let's not forget that this is the same franchise that brought us this masterpiece:
This also happens to be the best photograph we've seen thus far of Oscar Isaac in his Apocalypse get-up. Our first look at the character, which came during San Diego Comic-con this past summer, made the First Mutant look like a villain from Power Rangers (the lighting making him look purple most definitely didn't help). The blue, pupil-less villain photographed in the poster looks much more like his comic book counterpart, which definitely gives us more hope for what we will see in the finished cut of the film:
If I'm being perfectly honest, I can't say I'm too concerned. Even if the make-up or the visual effects don't look quite right, Oscar Isaac is one of the most talented young actors around, and I have full confidence in his ability to create a satisfying portrayal.
X-Men: Apocalypse will actually be the second film in the franchise that is released in 2016, with Deadpool bringing its R-rated goodness to theaters just in time for Valentine's Day. It won't be until after Deadpool, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Captain America: Civil War that Bryan Singer's latest will be arriving in theaters. Between now and then we will hopefully get a lot more shots of Oscar Isaac's character - and perhaps each time out he will look cooler and cooler. By the time the movie rolls around on May 27, 2016, perhaps we will see him as the absolutely terrifying comic book villain that he should be.
