Doctor Strange Set Photo Shows Off Some Of Marvel's Mystical Props

Filming is currently underway on Marvel Studios' next big chapter in their cinematic universe with Doctor Strange. While the first, unofficial, shots of the movie just showed a scruffy Benedict Cumberbatch on the streets of Tibet, a new image now shows us some slightly more mystical images that will look familiar to those that know the master of the mystic arts.

The tweet comes courtesy of Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito. He’s posing with Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and producer Stephen Broussard. Of course what’s really interesting is what’s behind them. The image on the door is the Seal of Vishanti. It’s a symbol of protection used by the Sorcerer Supreme to prevent evil from entering the Sanctum Sanctorum. Of course, the sanctum of Doctor Strange is just a townhouse in New York City, and this does not look much like that. Instead, it’s likely the door to to the domicile of the Ancient One, the one who teaches Stephen Strange to use the mystic arts. In the film, the Ancient One will be played by Tilda Swinton, which is the best.

Below the seal on the door is also an object that looks like an eye. The Eye of Agamotto is another of the mystical tools employed by Doctor Strange. Agamotto himself was a previous Sorcerer Supreme. This is our first look at what the world ofDoctor Strange will look like. While it may not look like much right now, the creators of the movie have promised a visually stunning film. Once all the post-production effects are applied we expect to be wowed. Even the set we’re looking at here may look nothing like this by the time we actually see it on screen.

This is all they’ll be teasing us with in the short term, however. Louis D’Esposito responded to a fan tweet after this picture that also made it clear what we won’t be seeing anytime soon: Doctor Strange himself.

So enjoy this set image, as we won’t be seeing anything official of Benedict Cumberbatch’s character for a while, it looks like. The costume is, of course, a huge part of what people want to see so we’ll be waiting with bated breath to actually see what he’ll look like.

What do you guys think of the set? Does it look appropriately magical and mystical?
