Why Quentin Tarantino Has Held Off Doing Kill Bill 3 For This Long

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies were incredibly popular when they were released over 10 years ago. The idea of a third movie in the series has been a topic of interest since the sequel ended, but thus far has never materialized. Now Tarantino says that a third movie is very much a possibility, but that waiting a long time was necessary, as The Bride deserved a rest after everything that had happened to her.

In a new interview, the director says that his plan for a third movie has always been to pick it up in real time. However many years have gone by in real time is how many will have passed in the film world, as well. For that reason, the longer Quentin Tarantino takes to get back to the movie, the longer his character will live in peace. 

I put the character Beatrix Kiddo through a lot, and so I wanted her to have this much time for peace. I wanted her to have some time with her daughter and not have to be in the genre machine.

It’s an interesting personification of the fictional character and an interesting peek into the mind of this writer. Quentin Tarantino apparently sees his characters as people who live outside of his writing. He actually seems to feel that taking up the story again will thrust the character into conflict and out of an otherwise happy life. Apparently the character lives on without his writing, but terrible things only happen to them when he gets involved. Somehow this seems completely depressing. 

Tarantino does specify, in his interview with What The Flick, that there is a "possibility" for a Kill Bill 3 not necessarily a "probability" so fans should not get too excited too quickly. Still, he speaks of the possibility in fairly positive tones. This is a 180-degree shift from a couple years ago where he said he would "probably not" ever make another film in the series. He also says he would love to work with Uma Thurman again, and there are worse reasons to go and make a movie. Check out the full interview below.



There have been a number of rumors over the years about who and what a third movie would be about. Daryl Hannah has spoken about being part of it in the past. There has also been talk that the film will follow Nikki, the daughter of Vivica A. Fox’sas she goes after The Bride for revenge of her own. The film’s hiatus should give Thurman just enough time to train herself to fight. The longer the movie waits apparently the better she’ll be if the battle ever comes. Quentin Tarantino’s new movie The Hateful Eight will be out Christmas Day.
