What The X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer Will Likely Show Us

’Tis the season for superhero movie trailers. Last week Marvel released the first look at Captain America: Civil War, the next Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer (first teased by a sneak peek last night) will come out tomorrow evening, and later this month, the first X-Men: Apocalypse trailer will be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, many don’t like playing the waiting game, especially when it comes to the conclusion of the X-Men franchise’s “First Class” trilogy, but we may have found out who will be in the trailer a few weeks early.

Warning: potential spoilers for X-Men: Apocalypse are ahead.

The Italian film site Cinephilos (translated via Comicbook.com) released a description of the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer that is due to arrive in a little over two weeks. It starts off with a young Jean Grey waking from a bad nightmare and telling Professor Charles Xavier, “I have seen the end of the world. There was only death.” Then it cuts to a montage of the other students at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, followed by Moira MacTaggert saying they may have found the “god-like” mutant who may be the first of the species, a.k.a. Apocalypse. This leads to scenes of a hooded figure, accompanied by Psylocke and Storm, searching for mutants to help him remake the world, and when they find Magneto, this figure (unsurprisingly) reveals himself as Apocalypse.

After witnessing some of the destruction Apocalypse will unleash in the movie, we see Xavier looking frightened, and either he or Jean says, “It can control all of us.” This leads to a shot of two mutant forces, likely the X-Men and the Horsemen, facing each other, and when Apocalypse shoots energy through Xavier’s wheelchair, Jean Grey cries out. Other quick scenes include Mystique saying she came to fight,Quicksilver running through the hallway that leads to Cerebro, and Xavier’s eyes turning black in the Cerebro chamber and uttering, “I’ve never felt like this before.” The whole thing finishes with a shot of a finally bald Xavier.

Although this sounds similar to the footage shown earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, we won’t know if the description is the real deal until the actual trailer arrives in a few weeks. Still, this paints a bleak picture, and that’s saying a lot considering X-Men: Days of Future Past revolved around mutant-killing robots in an desolate future.

X-Men: Apocalypse will see the eponymous antagonist awakening after thousands of years to create a new world order for him to rule over. The ensuing conflict between him and the X-Men will be not just be the culmination of everything that’s built up since 2011’s X-Men: First Class, but could also arguably be the most emotional X-Men movie yet.

X-Men: Apocalypse will be released in theaters on May 27, 2016.
