Some superpowers are just plain cool. X-Men: Days of Future Past emphasized that notion perfectly with it’s use of Quicksilver (Evan Peters). In one scene, the mutant provided arguably the highlight of the entire movie by showing how someone with super speed could use it to have fun – while still getting the job done. With such positive fan reception, 20th Century Fox and director Bryan Singer now seem poised to do the obvious thing: give Quicksilver even more to do.
When asked by Collider, Peters explained that fans can expect even more of what made that sequence so great in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, saying:
It’s bigger, longer and more detailed. I think it’s an amazing sequence that they’ve put together. Just filming it, I was like, ‘Oh, my god!’ I think we shot for 22 days of second unit, working on the sequence, which is amazing. It’s so cool to take that much time to make something like that really pop and really work. Knock on wood, I think it’s going to be a fun and enjoyable sequence for people to watch, with Quicksilver running around and doing his thing in slow-mo time. I hope people like it.
The creative forces behind Apocalypse seem to have an understanding as to just how popular Quicksilver’s scene in Days of Future Past really was. The simple fact that they devoted 22 days of the new film’s shooting schedule to that scene alone means they have a vested interest in getting it right. Using Quicksilver to break Magneto out of the Pentagon in Days of Future Past gave the scene a sleek coolness that would most certainly not have been present if they had opted to useJuggernaut for the scene – which was the original plan.

Peters’ take on the character differed greatly from Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s – who portrayed the character in this summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. While Peters imbued the character with a happy-go-lucky charm and enthusiasm for his own abilities, Taylor-Johnson played the character more straight and annoyed by the perceived slowness of the world around him. By giving X-Men’s version of Quicksilver a more lighthearted demeanor, it allowed him to bring comic relief to the overall somber proceedings, which is something his Marvel Studios counterpart didn't do.
We won’t know much more about the scene in question until X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016 – or at least until a trailer drops. We will keep you updated on any and all X-Men news as it is made available.
