Daniel Radcliffe will forever be associated with the Harry Potter franchise. It doesn’t matter how many other movies he makes or what else he does. With a new movie set in the same world on it’s way there are a few different ways you might expect Radcliffe to react. He could be dismissive of this new kid on the block trying to ride his coat tails, or he could play the part of the successful veteran, trying to help the new kid make something of himself. It turns out neither is the case. He’s actually jealous of the early work on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Mostly he’s jealous of the wardrobe.
Daniel Radcliffe was part of a recent interview which took place on the same day that the first shots of Eddie Redmayne, as lead character Newt Scamander, were released. Upon seeing them for the first time Radcliffe did not hold back his opinion, he was a little pissed.
Oh fuck you, Eddie, in your brilliant costume… I got jeans and a zip top for 10 years and you’ve got a greatcoat already?
Who knew Radcliffe cared this much about the outfit? Apparently the interviewer at NME showed Radcliffe the picture of Redmayne that was part of Entertainment Weekly’s cover story on the new movie and showed the actor in very nice looking overcoat.
As a comparison. This is what Radcliffe got to wear throughout most of the Harry Potter movies. It’s not so much a costume or a wardrobe so much as it’s...well...clothes. Probably not that different from what some of you are wearing right now.
We can feel Radcliffe’s pain. Getting to wear fun and interesting costumes has got to be one of the best parts of being an actor. It can really help you feel more like the character you’re playing. Many of the characters within the Harry Potter movies got to wear unique outfits, but Harry, along with Ron and Hermione rarely got to wear anything beyond their school uniforms or fairly standard street clothes. This is still the Harry Potter world right? Why did the guy the franchise is named after not get clothes this cool?
